She Flies – Near Me EP coming March 13th

Here’s another acoustic version of a song, called She Flies, that will be on our upcoming EP.  This is a song about uncertainty, and one we enjoyed doing so stripped down. Check back next week for another video and a few more details about how to get these new songs on March 13th (spoiler: they will be free).

If you like what you hear, please help us out and repost on Facebook!

Near Me EP Coming March 13th, 2012

Hey everybody,

We’re going to be releasing a new EP in March and here’s one of the songs from it, called You Matter.  We’ve been playing these songs for almost six months now, and we’re really excited to finally have them recorded.  The EP will have full band versions of everything, but we thought it would be cool to put acoustic versions together, too.

More details coming about how you can get a copy of the EP, but for now, please enjoy and share!

New spring show dates on our calendar

The Oak & The Rose

Here’s a track that we wrote about a year ago, but it hasn’t made its way to a finalized recording yet.  It’s a song about our perceptions of what love should be versus what love is.  Enjoy.

Music on iTunes

Rye 1 - Rye

Well, it only took us eleven months to get our self-titled release on to iTunes.  But it’s there now, so if you’ve been waiting for the convenience of mp3′s or if you just want a couple of songs… go wild.

We are also happy to announce a few new calendar dates for the fall.  We’ll be adding a few more dates, and we’re excited to start playing some of the songs that will be on our next album.  Speaking of, look for some new recorded music late fall/ holiday season.  I’ve learned that it’s best not to speak until you’ve got something to say, and even though it has felt like forever since we’ve been posting/playing/dreaming, I hope that you’ll find these new songs worth the wait.

November Update

Hello friends,

It’s been a little while since the last post, figured you might like an update on what’s been going on in Rye world.  Or maybe you’d just like a little distraction from whatever you’re supposed to be doing.  No judgment here.

We made another trip to Auburn a few weekends ago, the date’s getting hazy.  We had a good time and we also caught a lucky break.  The kind of break like when you’re pretty sure you remember someone’s name but then after you commit to what you think is their name, you find yourself second guessing, then later you get a confirmation that you called them the right name. We were about 6 miles from the exit when suddenly the van started making a very unpleasant sound.  The kind of sound that you would hear if you tied a lamp to your bumper and drove 78 mph.  Compiling our collective knowledge of automobiles, we reasoned that it was a muffler issue.  We limped the last 6 miles at a very ginger speed and got off at our exit.   Jonathan noticed a Ford dealership that was no more than 100 yards from the exit, so we pulled in.  As we clanged our way through the front of the dealership, the salesmen didn’t even bother to approach the car, they just pointed us back towards the service area.  We caught the mechanic about 5 minutes before he was leaving for the day, and he was nice enough to stay and fix the muffler, i.e. no more horrific scraping noises.  We drove back afterward, then crashed (went to sleep, that is).

We played a Halloween party on the weekend of Halloween.  Good times.  Cold times.  The kids at this Halloween party had some legit costumes.

In a couple of weeks, you can catch us back in action at Land of a Thousand Hills in Cumming and also twice at Land of a Thousand Hills in Roswell.  For the record, we will be inside at both locations.  There was never any discussion of being outside, thank goodness.

If you are still reading, then one more thought… and it requires a little participation.  We’re setting some goals for the next year, a little pre-new year’s resolution if you will, and we want to know what you think.  Time and money being limited (as always) what would you like to see from Rye in the next year? More shows, more recorded music, both, something completely different?  Let us know what you like, seriously- we want to know.  You can email us, facebook us, or comment here.  If you have my cell phone number… well maybe not.

Peace.

Welcome to the new RyeBand.com

After years (not hyperbole) of trying to figure out how to build a website that looked sweet and was functional, we have come to the conclusion that we should make music and not try to write html code, or whatever it’s called.  So, with great pride, we would like to announce that this is now www.ryeband.com.  Wait… isn’t it the same as the blog?  Yeah, it is.  But now you don’t have to remember any crazy web address to get here, just ryeband.com.  And now we don’t have to wait a year to update things, which is nice for everyone.  We will continue to expand the site to make it the kind of site that you check as frequently as you check facebook, at least that’s the plan.

Also, we are pleased to announce some new fall dates that have been added to our calendar.  These shows are really going to be built around songwriting.  As you may know by now, we reformed the band this summer, and that wasn’t easy.  Since then, we have been working at getting back up to full steam.  We hired musicians for a few shows and while that is a ton of fun, we also have to make a lot of money just to break even.  And since our goal has always been to make as much music as possible, we were in a place where we couldn’t book enough gigs to be playing as much as we want to play.  What we realized was that Jonathan and I started this band as a duo and it was time to go back to that.  And after a couple of hours jamming, we realized that whatever mojo we brought with a full band was equally as strong as a duo.  So we’re excited to be doing shows as a duo for now and excited that it brings the focus totally to the music.  If you like big production, flashing lights, and fog machines then you probably won’t like it.  But if you like real music, rock and roll, and songs that mean something, I think you’re going to dig it.

Welcome to the next chapter friends.
